Climate & Temperature

In mid-April, Florence enjoys a pleasant spring climate. Temperatures typically range from 50°F in the mornings and evenings to around 68°F during the day. It's a great time to visit, with fewer tourists and mild weather.

Attire

Smart casual is recommended throughout your stay. Temperatures may be a little cooler in the evening, so a sweater or light jacket is recommended for evening functions. We encourage layers to accommodate the change in temperature and comfortable walking shoes for touring the city.

Restaurants and daytime activities also invite smart casual attire. We discourage heels for any daytime or evening function due to the uneven stone streets in Florence.

Comfort is the key, especially during city tours. Please note, when entering a church or holy site, guests must cover their knees and shoulders. Deviation from this will preclude entrance to these particular sites.

Italy operates on European Daylight Savings Time. Central European Time (GMT/UTC plus one hour). 12:00 PM EST is 6:00 PM in Florence.

Italy, like most other European countries, imposes a value added tax (VAT) on goods and services. In Italy, VAT is known as the Imposta sul Valore Aggiunto or IVA. This tax ranges from 10%-22% and is included on the sticker price of goods and services unless otherwise noted.  Americans may obtain a refund of the IVA on purchases of new goods, although not on the price paid for services such as hotels, car rentals, entertainment, meals or transportation.  For more information, please visit: www.globalblue.com.

Italy uses Type C, F, and L plugs. The electric current in Italy is 220-volt, 50 cycles AC. For 110-volt appliances, it is necessary to bring a current converter appropriate for the wattage of the appliance and a two-prong. Travelers from the US will likely need a power adapter. While the hotel may be able to provide one, it’s always recommended to travel with your own in case the availability of the hotel’s adaptors is limited.
